It’s the next phase in the NBA 2K League’s rapid growth. Brendan Donohue (Managing Director of the NBA 2K League) described the league’s growth to me recently in the phone as « transformational ». The current season NBA 2K22 MT, which was the NBA 2K’s third season, saw a significant increase in broadcast distribution and viewership. « Just checking apples to apple only our broadcasts on Twitch have increased nearly 70% over the course of the year, »
Donohue outlines, « and that’s not even counting the fact this, we added several distributors across the globe and also ESPN 2. » Live games were shown on ESPN2 as well as ESPN’s digital platforms, Sportsnet in Canada and delayed in the eGG Network in Southeast Asia and Loco in India, marking the first-ever broadcasts of 2K League games on linear television.
In total, ESPN2 received 29 broadcast nights during the course of the season. Every NBA 2K League match on ESPN’s platforms was also broadcast live across the Caribbean, Latin America, Oceania and Sub-Saharan Africa. Combining Twitch viewers with the distinct audience of ESPN2 in the event, the NBA 2K League received at minimum one million viewers every when it aired on ESPN2.
This year’s NBA 2K League Finals, in which the Wizards Gaming squad defeated the Warriors Gaming Squad 3-1, witnessed 1.1 million viewers tune in on Twitch all by itself. « As you can see on the esports scene and in gaming all over the world Buy 2K MT, there’s been incredible growth and we certainly benefited from it » Donohue explained.
